Turner Bros. is committed to providing the best sustainable shading options and solutions for
each and every project. System components, textiles and hardware are sourced and selected
based on environmental certification, recyclability and take-back options.
Turner Bros. environmental shading solutions help to contribute to a building’s overall green
rating, sustainability and user wellbeing.
Located in Circular Quay Sydney, Quay Quarter Tower’s (QQT) sustainable design is evident both inside and outside the building. With a retrofit approach, 65% of the original structure was retained, saving approximately 12,000 tonnes of embodied carbon. Quay Quarter Tower seamlessly blends with the cultural precinct and reflects a vision for a thriving, sustainable, and vibrant environment.
Turner Bros. were contracted to provide personalised sustainable shading solutions to multiple tenants, which included Sea-Tex fabric from the Climate Ready Fabrics range on automated and manual roller shades and motorised and manual drapery tracking systems with drapes.

Automated Internal Venetian Blind systems were installed within the elliptical glass cavity of the curved double skin ventilated facade which runs the full height of the building’s 29 floor atrium. The building has 64 separate controllable windows per floor facing 64 different directions, each programmed to automate independently by receiving unique information combining the sun’s Angle of Incidence, absolute position within the building and relative position to adjacent buildings.

Peter Coaldrake Education Precinct, the modern addition to Kelvin Grove campus at Queensland University of Technology designed by Wilson Architects and Henning Larson won multiple awards for both interior and sustainable architecture by the Australian Institute of Architects.
The precinct is praised for its sustainability and connectivity by linking to the library at Kelvin Grove campus whilst providing integrated landscape to the overall design.
Turner Bros. were engaged to provide sustainable solutions with automated internal roller shade systems installed to multiple facades. Motorised horizontal shading tension systems were also installed to glass skylights within the building.

The ITS towers in Barangaroo are designed to be carbon neutral and water positive, create zero waste emissions and contribute to community well-being. Lendlease partnered with Turner Bros. to commission the design of a shading and control system solution for the three ITS towers in Barangaroo South. The solar shading system required direct sunlight into the floor spaces to maintain comfort levels, provide enough view through to showcase the harbourside location of the building, minimise solar glare, and maximise the building’s overall energy efficiency. Horiso solar shading systems were selected using Screen Nature Metallised fabric by Climate Ready Fabrics to Tower One and Tower Two buildings. The roller blinds are programmed with CRE control systems by tracking sun positioning and measuring overshadowing components to control the blinds accordingly and maximise shading performance.

Designed by renowned architects Tzannes and Associates, International House Sydney stands at the entrance to Barangaroo South and is the first office building in Australia to use engineered timber. The contrasting timber and glass interior setting was paired with roller shade systems using Sea-Tex fabric. The benefits in using Sea-Tex was not only the recycled ocean plastic yarn component, which makes up 50% of the fabrics overall weight but also the fine texture and clean visibility view-through. The six-storey building has achieved a 6 Star Green Star for Office Design among other environmental and design accolades.
