- Prefecture 48, situated in the heritage-listed building at 230 Sussex Street, Sydney, houses four Japanese restaurants, a sophisticated whisky bar, and a patisserie. This project presented unique challenges that required innovative solutions and meticulous planning.
Due to the heritage status, the project team faced certain strict restrictions such as not being able to drill into the timber beams and existing brickwork to install drapery tracks and access to the site using scaffolding. The team worked closely with joiners and heritage consultants to determine the appropriate fixing positions for all tracks and batons. This coordination ensured that all installations were compliant with heritage regulations and respectful of the site's historical significance.
The team worked with designers to devise a solution using leather straps sourced from Birdsall Leather, which were carefully installed in the joists to suspend the tracks. These leather straps matched perfectly with the interior choices, providing a luxurious and high-end look to the curtain tracks.
To support the heavy velvet fabric that was chosen, an adequate number of leather straps were installed to evenly distribute the weight and prevent any strain on the structure. This attention to detail was crucial in maintaining both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the drapery. This approach not only preserved the integrity of the heritage structure but also ensured a secure and stable installation.
Maintaining the aesthetic of each of the restaurants within Prefecture 48 was paramount. The precise draping of the curtains was essential to achieving the desired final look. To ensure perfection, the team created multiple mockups, refining their approach until the final result was approved by the client.
Drawing on our extensive expertise and knowledge, our team overcame the unique challenges presented by this heritage site with innovative solutions and meticulous planning, resulting in a high-quality and aesthetically pleasing outcome that respected the historical significance of Prefecture 48’s location.
